Let me start off by saying that I am a massive Disney fanatic. My whole childhood revolved around when the next Harry Potter book would be released and when the next Disney film would come out (or when I'd be heading to Disneyland next). I am a big fan of all things Disney, assuming the Disney Channel is not actually Disney but some disgusting industry taking the name in vain. So I went into Tangled expecting to enjoy myself, but not have my world altered. I'd say that I left feeling somewhere in the middle of those two, but definitely with more enjoyment than I had presumed. This film had a hell of a lot of hype. I had heard that it was the best Disney film since Beauty and the Beast, that it would change the way I thought about cartoons and various other wildly unlikely scenarios. And, you know, I did like it. But it didn't blow my mind or anything.
I do not feel like I know enough about animation to comment on that element of the film, but I certainly believed that the animation of Disney films is becoming more and more human every time. I am not an avid cartoon watcher because the inconsistencies within them always drove me mental and luckily, I never feel that way during Disney films. Especially not this one. The animation was consistent, human and, well, pretty. As for the characters, I really did like the two leads (are they leads in cartoons? I'll just go with that). I did not even REALISE that Mandy Moore was in it till near the end and I'd never heard of Zachary Levi, but they both had very good voices for their roles. I found myself relating to Rapunzel in a way that I normally do not connect to cartoon characters. Essentially, I really adored her desire to achieve her dreams and her willingness to pursue them despite being help back. I am a bit of a sucker for motivated characters, so she was definitely brilliant. I found Flynn to be interesting and his growth in the story, while predictable, was precious.
The story is also a hard subject to comment on because it was hardly original. I mean, Rapunzel is Rapunzel, a few alterations or not. I won't say I didn't like it, but I think I wanted more. Yes, I got lost in the film and this world, but I definitely wanted more depth in general. My favourite scene was absolutely the scene in the midst of the lights; it was breathtakingly beautiful and warmed my heart so much. Speaking of that scene, the music was really sweet, too. While I don't think it deserves awards or anything, the score was really appealing and the actual songs provided many laughs.
Have I even mentioned the horse? I freaking loved Maximus the horse. At first, I thought he was just going to be annoying throughout the film, but yes. Definitely learned to love the little guy. My affection may be biased, however, since I have been feeling nostalgia for my horse-riding days as of late. Horses are such beautiful, majestic animals and I took advantage of my time with them and didn't appreciate it enough. I think that I'll find somewhere to go horse-riding soon. Anyway. Hey there. Sorry, let me wrap up the review.
Tangled, while a really lovely and appealing film, is not something that I plan on seeing again outside of DVD. It was fun and the scene with the lights made the film for me. I would recommend it if you think that is your type of film, but I wouldn't really go out of my way to try and convince someone to see it. Let me know what you think of Tangled in the comments and just remember that everyone has different opinions. I PROMISE that I will review The King's Speech next. Promise. I think.

Yeah, i've heard it was supercalafragilistically amazing but I didn't want to see it unless it was actually very good. Thanks for the honest opinion.
And come on, as good as Beauty and the Beast? No way you can't top that!

I absolutely loved Tangled. I saw it twice in theaters, but the fact that I didn't have to pay for it either time might have been a factor. Regardless, I would recommend it to anyone who adores Disney films. For me, the music definitely makes or breaks it, and I loved the songs in this. While it may not have been my favorite Disney film ever, I definitely enjoyed it.
I haven't seen it, but that's because I don't like the way Disney's heading.
Remember Snow White and Sleeping Beauty and the Little Mermaid? I loooved that kind of animation! I hate the way the animations have become more rounded and looking more and more like Pixar each day. Nothing against Pixar, it's just not Disney.
I miss horses and horseriding too. I never did much because horseriding is so expensive, but I freaking love it.
I did love Rapunzel as a kid, it was one of my favourites (I think having really long hair myself was the reason) so I do want to see this movie.
Thank you for your review and I'm actually thinking I will go out and see it now rather than wait for the DVD.
As for the horse thing, I've always been a horsey person (never took lessons but I do volunteer work with horses, coming up 8 years) so horse movies and horses in movies always appeal to me.I saw the horse in the trailer but didn't want to hope it would actually become a character we get to know, but we do and I'm excited!! I agree on all your horse points too, they are pretty awesome, stunning creatures, and I treasure all the wonderful horses and ponies I get to work with so often.
Zachary Levi is a nerd's nerd. I think you'd really like him personally. You should check out his website thenerdmachine.com. It's fantastic and they have some pretty cool merch. He's also the star of the NBC show Chuck which is amazing. I really think you'd like it. You should add it to your list of shows to watch next. There was a great Adam Baldwin and Summer Glau moment in a recent episode that I know you'd appreciate at least. Haha. Hope you have an awesome week! :)
Loved it. I was expecting much less! It was cute (though predictable), and the colorful scenes were exactly what I was in the mood for. The lights scene was too good, I especially liked the song that went with it.
*On a side note, I appreciated that while Flynn seemed to betray his princess, he actually didn't. While this may seem trite to most, I enjoyed this very slight variation on the typical romance story arch.
I personally hadn't heard any of the hype going into the movie, so I didn't expect much. I think that my opinion after watching the film was much the same as yours. Until, that is, I talked to a friend of mine. My friend tells me that this is the best depiction of child abuse she has ever seen, and as someone who spent years of her life enduring that type of abuse, it truly meant something to me. This changed my entire perspective of the movie. I watched the movie again, but I tried to think of things through her perspective. The movie was even more incredible. It really is life altering.
I've got to wait till next week for it to come out -.-'
But hey, I'm a sucker for animals with an attitude. Especially when said animals take a disliking to the male lead.
But no... you just simply cannot beat Beauty and the Beast. It just can't be done.
Going to see The King's Speech on Tuesday :D
I adored Tangled. I loved the horse Max and that he drove Flynn mad. The extra characters were great comic relief to the story as well. I would only recommend the movie to people that are looking for a light heart-ed movie or if the love Disney productions.
Enjoyed the review and look forward to your next post.
